1 Exit Through The Gift Shop

15:29

If you are in London anytime soon you should pop into the Mr Brainwash exhibition.
Artist Thierry Guetta -or, perhaps better known as Mr. Brainwash, came to London for his very first solo show in the UK.
French-born Guetta gained international recognition after being featured in Banksy's Oscar-nominated documentary, Exit Through The Gift Shop in 2010.
It is full of bright, colourful feel good pieces that make you look twice. They are not always what they seem! This is also the case in YAELLE scarves, they are all hand illustrated so the more you look at them the more you discover.
We love the below image of The Beatles wearing scarves overs their faces!
Entry is free and don't forget to pick up your free posters as you exit through the gift shop!

1 The 1000 Journal Project

09:36

The 1000 Journal Project was created by 'Someguy'. This is a fascinating project, which we here at YAELLE HQ have been following for some time now.

The idea behind the project is quite simple. One thousand blank journals distributed around San Francisco. They were left in bar bathrooms, cafe's, left on buses and given to strangers. Each journal contained instructions to pass along to someone else once they have drawn/written created something on one of the blank pages.
There are no set rules, only to pass it on or leave it somewhere for someone else to find. The technique is based on an old parlor game and requires each participant to write or draw on a sheet of paper, fold it to conceal their work, then pass it on to the next participant. The end result is a product of the group's collective consciousness.

Some journals never made it back to 'Someguy' however each journal has its own adventure and story.
They've been lost and found, forgotten and remembered.  They've been the subject of treasure hunts, brought to remote mountaintops, abandoned at airports, and even stolen at gunpoint.

We seem to be in the 'Digital Age' and we often forget the basics of creativity. There is nothing more satisfying than filling a blank piece of paper with original artwork in different medias. All YAELLE scarves start off simply with pen to paper drawings. Keeping our designs real and unique.
This is why we love the 1000 Journal Project!

6 YAELLE in STATUS Magazine

04:18

This week YAELLE silk scarves have been featured in STATUS Magazine.
'STATUS is Asia’s youth culture magazine, focusing on the future of fashion, music, art, and urban lifestyles–from Manila to Singapore, Seoul to Paris, LA to New York, and everywhere in between'
The latest issue, Sex, Love, and Rock & Roll features an amazing illustrated Maroon 5 on the cover.

Also featured in this issue is designer Alba Prat's Neon Old School Collection. For her second collection Alba Prat got inspired by the cold war children going to school with their leather bags and knitted accessories handmade by their grandmothers. Disciplined pupils are represented in three different outfits, in which the bright and strong spirit of their childhood is spreading around through the neon color. We love the contrast between nostalgic school days and the contemporary neon edge.

0 Brit Awards Fun!

08:19

As Official Partners to The Brit Awards 2012 we were invited down on the evening to watch the show (which was incredible) and also to the after show party (just as incredible!)
All the nominees, winners and presenters received a YAELLE silk scarf along with other goodie bag treats such as a leather Coach tote bag, Agent Provocateur perfume and a French connection shopping spree.

The Official Brit Awards 2012 Programme

Performances by Adele and Florence + The Machine were personal favourites and outfits worn by Jessie J and Rhianna we loved! Jessie J wore a beautiful bright red sheer gown by Indian designers Falguni & Shane Peacock. This is part of their SS campaign and the below image of the dress was shot in Los Angeles.

As ever Rihanna's performance of We Found Love complete with on stage paint fights was one to remember! Rihanna won Best International Artist which was well deserved.

Of course the Brits never finishes without some sort of drama! We all couldn't believe when James Corden had to ask Adele to stop her speech! We could see what was happening from our seats and felt sorry for poor James Corden who had to stop her! To the amusement of the crowd, Adele stuck her middle finger up at the 'suits' to a huge cheer from the audience. In consolation she did take home Brit Awards for Best British Album and Best British Female, well done Adele!

0 Kanye West Scarves

16:17

Just thought I would do a quick write up of Kanye West's silk scarf collection! These scarves were released in May this year and consist of a collection of 5 designs printed onto 100% silk twill. Kanye West commissioned contemporary visual artist George Condo to create a series of paintings featuring the characters who populate Kanye's musical fantasies and album 'My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy'. They are limited to 100 scarves per design and each have an intricate gold frame with  hand drawn lettering by M/M Paris.
I'm not really sure what I think of these scarves!? Some of the imagery is a little scary! Once the scarf is on you can't see the design and I think the colours work well together however I am not sure if I would want a nude portrait of the Kanye with a female beast on top of him around my neck!? Each to their own I guess!

0 Fashion Drawings

09:43

I just thought I would give people a sneak preview of some drawings I am doing for the new and improved scarf shop section of my website....(coming soon) My silk scarf collection will be featured on the black and white drawings of the models. The idea is to show lots of different and fun ways of wearing Yaelle scarves.
I have not done fashion drawings since I was at uni and forgot how much I enjoyed doing them!

0 Mem & Laz

11:34

I was recently in London with my good friend Jane. She took me to this amazing little restaurant called Mem & Laz in Angel.
It is a Mediterranean restaurant with Turkish cuisine.... and the food was absolutely amazing!
We had a few different dishes including grilled halloumi salad, spinach and cheese wrapped pancakes topped with a creamy tomato sauce and then for main, apricot and honey chicken with vegetables. A bit of a random mix but we wanted to try everything as the menu was so big!

I especially loved the décor and ambience of the restaurant. They had the most beautiful hand made mosaic clusters of lamps, in a rainbow of colours all over the restaurant. This made the restaurant feel really warm and cosy. I'm thinking inspiration for a mosaic scarf design!

I love finding little treasures like this in London!

1 Cote D'azur Photoshoot

10:39

For my SS12 scarf collection I decided I wanted to go to the place where I always feel most inspired.... the South of France. India Hobson and I have been talking and planning this shoot for over a year, so to finally get out there in the sun to shoot was pretty amazing. The weather was perfect and as well as shooting we also got time to do a little sun bathing and exploring which was a bonus!
Aaron who did the last fashion film for me also flew out to film another fashion film. We shot it in Monaco and apart from getting told off every so often for using a tripod (apparently you can't shoot with a tripod in Monaco unless you have a permit!) it was a really exciting day.
I don't want to reveal too much of what happened and the amazing images we got so here are a few sneak peaks of behind the scenes.
A HUGE thank you to the following people who all helped and contributed in one way or another to make this fantastic shoot and experience happen.
India Hobson, Ellie Hallsworth, Aaron Cheesman, Galya & Nat Denaro, Lee Joseph Elliot, Lee Thompson, Beth Rees, Floriane Falcou, Joelle Falcou & Jessie Lane.

0 A Shaded View of Fashion

14:36

While I was at University I was really interested in alternate ways to show my designs rather than just on a catwalk or in sketchbook. I did my dissertation on technologies and how they are helping designers take the traditional fashion show to a new level. For example, the Diesel hologram catwalk show where they had virtual seal life creatures swimming alongside the real life catwalk models. Then there was the Kate Moss and McQueen hologram piece which was simply beautiful and way ahead of its time. These fresh takes on traditional methods of catwalks I find fascinating.
I was excited to find out that there is an actual fashion film festival called A Shaded View of Fashion held in Paris this September. I think fashion film is a very powerful media so for there to be a whole film festival dedicate to this is very exciting. I am pleased that myself and Ched53 will be collaborating on another short fashion film to show Yaelle scarves new collection together very soon in the glamours Monaco.... watch this space! 1 Ftape

13:33

I was introduced to the website www.ftape.com by India Hobson (amazing photographer who has done my last photoshoot and will be doing my next one!) She showed me a photoshoot which she thought I would like... and I fell in love with it so thought I would share it! It was inspired by the artist Vladimir Tretchikoff and is a contemporary take his beautiful paintings. I love the way his paintings are so bold and colourful yet also very muted. Below are images of his original paintings called Balinese Girl and Chinese Girl. Below that are the images from the Ftape photoshoot.
I want to incorporate these ideas for the next photoshoot for Yaelle Scarves. These colours printed onto silk will make gorgeous scarves!
